Burdock root extract has been used for centuries in both healing and skin care. Burdock is rich in minerals, the most important of which are copper, iron, manganese, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and zinc, as well as B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, Vitamins B12, C and E. In addition, it contains larger amounts of lignans, mucus, tannins, chlorogenic and caffeic acids, inulin, and traces of essential oil. An important active ingredient is arctiopicrin, which has excellent bacterial, fungicidal and antiseptic effects, significantly reducing the symptoms of various skin problems, such as acne, dermatitis and blemishes. The skin rejuvenating and anti-aging effects of arctine (antioxidant lignan) in burdock has been studied by German researchers. It has been found that burdock extract regenerates the structure of the skin, and if used for four weeks is effective in reducing visible wrinkles around the eyes. The study was published in the Journal of cosmetic dermatology.
