The world of serums can often be a scary and confusing place, which can lead to a lot of unanswered questions. It’s moisturising, but does it replace my moisturiser? Are they worth the investment? Where exactly does a serum fit into my routine, and how does it benefit me? (I hear you asking). Don’t worry, we are here to help - think of this as your go-to guide for all your serum concerns.
What is a serum?
Serums are packed with targeted skincare ingredients, and their lightweight consistency permits delivery of a high concentration of potent actives to the cells. They are specifically formulated to revitalise and repair skin cells whilst also addressing other skin concerns. Serums come in a variety of different formulas, including oils, gels, creams, and water-like consistencies.
How do I use a serum?
Due to its thinner consistency, serums are ideal for layering, making them a perfect addition to any skincare routine, regardless of your skin type. Serums, being the lightest product should always be applied before your moisturiser. By applying your serum before your moisturiser, the active ingredients can be absorbed into the skin better. For best results always apply serums on damp skin, pressing evenly and gently across the face.
How do I pick the right serum for me?
There is a serum for everyone; you just have to familiarise yourself with essential ingredients and identify your skin type.
- Dry skin: If you have dry skin, look for products that incorporate hydrating proteins such as hyaluronic acid which help your skin retain moisture. Our Regenerative Serum helps smooth and soothe thirsty skin.
- Oily Skin: For oily/ acne-prone skin look for ingredients such as retinol and zinc, which will help repair the skin and regulate oil production. We recommend trying either the Regenerative Serum or Smoothing Serum.
- Mature or Tired Skin: With ageing or lacklustre skin, look for serums that have Vitamin C and Retinol - not only will these ingredients help brighten the skin, but reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Smoothing Serum powered by Retinol combines Vitamin C and Retinol safely. Additionally, the Anti-Blue Light Serum is excellent for protecting and regenerating the skin.
Okay, maybe you’ve convinced me - but why are serums more expensive?
Serums tend to be on the pricer side of skincare because of the potency of the active ingredients. Also, a little bit goes a long way; a few drops are enough for your full face and decolletage. So, you are getting your money’s worth!
